Generally, securing a visa to the Gambia is one of the requirements in order that entry may be permitted to a visitor.
Aevamo’s reading
The Gambia Immigration Department's entry-requirements page states the operative obligation for this regime: a person entering The Gambia must be in possession of a valid pass or permit, and a valid passport must carry a visa unless the holder is exempted. It is the immigration authority's own statement of the requirement enforced at the border.
The GID's visa-services page states the general requirement that a visa must be secured for entry and its schedules enumerate the countries that need a visa (and clearance); every issuer on this row appears in those visa-required schedules or on none of the exemption lists (AU, Commonwealth, EU/Schengen, Nordic, Baltic/Balkan, UAE/Turkey, reciprocal), so the advance-visa obligation applies to each of them.

What this answer covers Limits & assumptions
Work and residence rights are separate from this check. This is the entry rule and the length of stay the instrument grants. It is not a decision about you: the officer at the border decides admission, and we do not evaluate the purpose of your trip, your passport's remaining validity, an onward ticket, funds, insurance or health requirements.
