Aevamo’s reading

Section 3(1) of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025 imposes the requirement of a valid passport and visa for every foreigner entering or present in India; every row in this output is either a mechanism for satisfying that requirement (e-visa, regular visa) or an exemption from it made under section 33 of the Act (the visa-free entries and the visa-on-arrival facility).

The Bureau of Immigration lists Nepal and Bhutan under the visa-free regime and states their citizens are exempt from the passport and visa requirement when entering from Nepal or Bhutan, with the route conditions stated, so no advance authorisation is needed and no stay cap is imposed.

What this answer covers Limits & assumptions

Work and residence rights are separate from this check. This is the entry rule and the length of stay the instrument grants. It is not a decision about you: the officer at the border decides admission, and we do not evaluate the purpose of your trip, your passport's remaining validity, an onward ticket, funds, insurance or health requirements.
