Official wording

Visa free entry can be availed by Maldivians whose purpose of visit to India is exclusively for Business/Medical treatment/Tourism and the stay in India does not exceed a period of 90 days. … The 90 days period will be inclusive of all prior stays in India during a period of 6 months immediately preceding the Date of your arrival in India.

Aevamo’s reading

Section 3(1) of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025 imposes the requirement of a valid passport and visa for every foreigner entering or present in India; every row in this output is either a mechanism for satisfying that requirement (e-visa, regular visa) or an exemption from it made under section 33 of the Act (the visa-free entries and the visa-on-arrival facility).

The Bureau of Immigration states Maldivians may enter visa-free for business, medical or tourism purposes for stays not exceeding 90 days, with the 90 days counted against all stays in the preceding 6 months, so a Maldivian tourist walks through without advance authorisation but is limited to 90 days in any 180-day window.

What this answer covers Limits & assumptions

Work and residence rights are separate from this check. This is the entry rule and the length of stay the instrument grants. It is not a decision about you: the officer at the border decides admission, and we do not evaluate the purpose of your trip, your passport's remaining validity, an onward ticket, funds, insurance or health requirements.
